Recent pattern of Enterobius vermicularis infections among elementary school children in Kyungpook Province, Korea

Abstract

|
A study of the recent patterns of Enterobius vermicularis infections among elementary school children in Kyungpook Province, based on the discovery of Enterobius eggs by the modified Graham¢¥s scotch tape swab technique, have been carried out during the period from June to August, 1981.
A total of 1, 005 children examined, the prevalence of Enterobius vermicularis was founnto be 31.0 per cent and no significant difference in the sex specific rate was observed.
In the pattern of the prevalence rate by age group, the rate progressively increased by age, reaching a maximum of 37.1 per cent in the 8 year age group, after which it remained around 30.0 per cent.
In the prevalence of enterobiasis among school children.in the 3 different areas, the rate among children in Urban was unexpectedly low (13. 1 per cent) and that in the Mountainous was highly infected (45.2 per cent).
It was found that the prevalence of Enterobius vermicularis among elementary school children in Kyungpook Province is still high.
